DELAWARE – APRIL 17, 2023 – Acker continued the success of the 2023 auction season with a strong, two-evening U.S. sale on Wednesday and Thursday April 12 and 13 live online from Delaware.  The auction generated nearly $6 Million in sales and featured Wines from The Kingsman, The Foodie and The Oenophile, A Significant Cellar’s First Time, and Magnificent Wines of a European Connoisseur.  One hundred and thirty-two New World Records were set across the two days, including double digits for Meo-Camuzet and Domaine Leflaive.

Domaine de la Romanee Conti dominated the Top Ten Lots in the sale, capturing all spots won by Burgundy, while Bordeaux and Italy also emerged among the Top Ten.  The number one position went to a case of 1978 DRC La Tache with conditions that brought in $75,000, and the number two spot, three bottles of 2005 DRC Romanee Conti in banded OWC, collected $68,740.  The third and fourth positions were won by Bordeaux, including two magnums of 1953 Chateau Lafite Rothschild ringing in at $62,500 setting a New World Record, and six bottles of Chateau Palmer selling for $47,500, with both lots nearly doubling high estimates.  There was a two-way tie for the fifth spot with twelve bottles of 2005 DRC Grand Echezeaux and six bottles of 2005 DRC La Tache, both in banded OWC, capturing $43,750 each.  Next up was also a DRC tie with twelve bottles of 2005 Echezeaux in banded OWC and another six bottles of 2005 La Tache in banded OWC selling for $40,000 a piece.  DRC took the ninth position as well, with six bottles of 2018 La Tache in banded OWC collecting $35,000.  The Top Ten Lots closed out in a four-way tie with a 13.2 Liter bottle of 1971 G. Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva ( a New World Record) joining six bottles each in banded OWC of 2006 and 2017 DRC La Tache and 2015 DRC Richebourg, all realizing $30,000.

“After such a strong Q1, there were questions about if Q2 could keep up, but I can safely say that the market continues to be very strong and very active!  Demand for the world’s finest and rarest wines remains high, as it should.  Is there a better beverage on Earth, not for me,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon.  “Hong Kong gets its turn in less than a week, and I am very excited to return to Asia for my third time in the last few months, with an even bigger sale estimated at HK$70M/$US9M!”

Acker’s auction season continues with a live auction in Hong Kong on Thursday April 20 and Saturday April 22, a Spirits Sale in New York on Thursday April 27, and another U.S. sale on Wednesday May 17.  Acker is currently accepting wines for its June U.S. and Hong Kong sales, and weekly web auctions close every Friday.  For more information, email info@ackerwines.com
