Three of the top performing lots in the October 24th NY Auction:
Lot 203: 1 Jeroboam 2010 Comte Liger-Belair Echezeaux in OWC,
Lot 234: 1 Jeroboam 2001 DRC Romane Conti in OWC
and Lot 215, 217: 12 bottles and 6 magnums 2009 Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee in OWCs

Acker hosted its second October “live online” auction in New York City on Saturday, with US$5.4 million in sales achieved, setting 92 New World Records. The auction was again dominated by Burgundy, with the 67 top grossing lots going to an assortment of the region’s most desirable names. The Burgundian smackdown was headlined by Domaine du Comte-Liger Belair and Domaine de la Romanee Conti, as these two marquis producers accounted for the Top Ten lots of the sale, along with 30% of the New World Records set on Saturday.

The Top Ten Lots of the auction were a duel between the old and new guard of Burgundy as Domaine de la Romanee Conti and Comte Liger-Belair duked it out for every position. Taking first place while capturing a New World Record at $105,400, was a single Jeroboam of 2001 DRC Romanee Conti in original wood, while six bottles of the same wine claimed the second spot, selling for $93,000. Third place presented a tie, as six magnums of 2009 Comte Liger-Belair La Romanee and twelve bottles of 1999 DRC La Tache each achieved $80,600. The fifth position was captured by three bottles of 2010 DRC Romanee Conti in original wood that realized $74,400, while the sixth spot kept the DRC momentum going as a banded, twelve bottle 1999 DRC Assortment sold for $68,200. The final four positions of the Top Ten went to Comte Liger-Belair with twelve bottles of 2007 La Romanee, six magnums of 2007 La Romanee in OWCs and twelve bottles of 2009 La Romanee in OWCs each realizing $62,000, while twelve bottles of 2008 La Romanee wrapped up the Top Ten, selling for $55,800.

When the battle for Burgundy supremacy was taken to the New World Record book, it was Domaine du Comte-Liger Belair who reigned supreme, claiming eighteen new records, while the wines of Domaine de la Romanee Conti achieved nine. Tying DRC, and taking another nine new world records, was Domaine Dujac. The demand for white wine was also strong, as Domaine Ramonet, Roulot, Drouhin and Egon Muller, Germany’s master of Riesling, each set notable, new world records for white wines.

“Now that we’ve made it halfway through the Fall season, I continue to revel in amazement at the market’s love affair with Burgundy,” exclaimed Acker Chairman, John Kapon. “We will keep spreading the Burgundy love this November, with two astonishing auctions, the first of which has already been launched, on November 5th and 7th, live online in Hong Kong, with the 7th designated entirely to the Collection of the Golden Phoenix. Our second sale in November, soon to be announced, will be Acker’s second, single cellar sale of this spectacular Fall season, featuring The Holy Grail of Burgundy, spread across two evenings, November 19th and 20th, live online in New York City. There will be over US$20 million of wines auctioned across these two sales, and I could not be more excited!”

The auction season continues for Acker with a “live online” auction in Hong Kong on November 5th and 7th. Acker will then host a single cellar sale in New York on November 19th and 20th. Acker is currently accepting wines for December “live online” auctions, with weekly web auctions closing every week. For more information, email info@ackerwines.com.
