Acker’s April HK Auction Generates Nearly HK$70M

Acker traveled to Hong Kong for the third time in five months to host a robust two-day sale on Friday and Saturday April 21 and 22, realizing nearly HK $70M/US $9M in sales and setting 190 New World Records. Hong Kong bidders came out in full-force once again, and there was significant interest surrounding an offering direct from the incredible cellars of the king of the hill of Hermitage, Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, as well as featured collections including A Half-Century of Collecting, Electrifying Leroy and d'Auvenay, Two Generations, and The Octogenarian.
Thanks to the Domaine-direct offering from Chave, the Rhone took some of Burgundy’s usual spotlight, claiming one of the Top Ten Lots in the sale. The highest-priced lot was twelve bottles of 2005 Domaine de la Romanee Conti La Tache in banded OWC, which fetched US $83,871. This was followed by a twelve-bottle assortment of 1996 DRC in banded custom OWC, which sold for $77,419. The third and fourth positions went to Red and White Burgundy, with six bottles of 1996 H. Jayer Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux selling for $70,968 and six bottles of 1998 D’Auvenay Chevalier Montrachet fetching $64,516, respectively. The fifth position was a tie between a case of 1986 DRC Assortment in custom OWC and an eight-bottle vertical of every vintage ever released of J. L. Chave Ermitage Cuvee Cathelin spanning 1990-2010, both selling for $61,290, the former setting a New World Record and the latter exceeding high estimates. The Top Ten Lots concluded in a six-way tie at $51,613 including ten bottles of 1994 Domaine Leroy Chambertin, three bottles each D’Auvenay 2000 Chevalier Montrachet, 2011 Chevalier Montrachet in OWC and 2013 Batard Montrachet in OWC, and a case each of 1999 and 2009 Domaine Bizot Echezeaux.

Acker’s auction season continues with a U.S. sale on Wednesday and Thursday, May 17-18, followed by another sale in Hong Kong on Thursday and Friday, June 1-2.
