Burgundy Continues to Reign

DELAWARE - APRIL 18, 2022

Three of the Top Lots in Acker’s April Delaware Auction:
Lot 871 – 12 Bottles 2018 A. Rousseau Chambertin in OCB
Lot 804 – 6 Magnums 2003 DRC Assortment in banded OWC
Lot 904 - 3 Bottles 2015 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne

After relinquishing its prevailing dominance at Acker’s April Hong Kong auction, Domaine de la Romanee Conti was back on top as the world’s most important producer in Acker’s April Delaware Auction on Wednesday and Thursday, April 13th and 14th. In addition to capturing five of the top ten lots and nine of the top twenty-five, DRC accomplished six all-time highs in the sale. Burgundy continued to reign supreme, achieving 92% of the top twenty-five lots and two-thirds of the 160 New World Records on the week, including fourteen for Raveneau, nine for Ramonet, eight for Coche-Dury, and seven each for Rousseau and Leroy. All of the record-breaking bottles of Coche-Dury came from One of the World’s Greatest Collections, featuring Rousseau, DRC, and Coche-Dury, which realized an impressive thirteen all-time highs from fifty expertly curated lots.

The Top Ten Lots all went to Burgundy, and first prize was awarded to six magnums of a 2003 DRC assortment hammering at $124,500, an all-time high. DRC also won second and third prize with three bottles of 1999 Romanee Conti collecting $93,375 and a magnum of 2011 Romanee Conti ringing in at $49,800 and earning a New World Record. Rousseau and DRC tied for the fourth spot, a case of 2018 Rousseau Chambertin with a case of 1999 DRC Echezeaux each fetching $47,310. Rousseau was back in sixth place, showcasing a tie between twelve bottles of 2012 and twelve bottles of 2018 Chambertin Clos de Beze each garnering $43,575, a World Record for the 2012 vintage. Rounding out the Top Ten was one bottle of 1993 Leroy Musigny at $37,350 and a case of 1999 DRC Vosne Romanee Cuvee Duvault Blochet and six bottles of 2009 Coche-Dury Corton Charlemagne, the one White Burgundy to make the list, both selling at $34,860.

2022 is off to an incredible start and April, while a relatively quiet month, still added $10 Million in sales to the season. We have a lot of exciting things coming up in May, and we’re anticipating doubling our April sales with auctions in Delaware and Hong Kong launching very soon, with some really exciting cellars are coming up,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “And what more can I say about Burgundy? I continue to drink it, and it is getting scarcer and scarcer with each sip. The market’s obsession with Burgundy is also bringing many collectors’ attention to the other great regions of the world, as one could argue everything else is a value right now. It’s an exciting time to be a wine lover.”

Acker’s auction season continues in Delaware on Thursday and Friday May 12th and 13th and in Hong Kong on Saturday May 28th. The Hong Kong Spirits Auction in support of Hong Kong’s food and beverage business is now open for bidding and will take place live online on Saturday, April 23rd. Acker is currently accepting wines for June auctions, with weekly web auctions closing every week and spirits auctions closing monthly. For more information, email info@ackerwines.com.
