HONG KONG – JULY 11, 2022. Acker topped off the first half of a successful 2022 auction season with its usual, intimate sale in Hong Kong on Saturday, July 9th. Wines direct from the cellars of Domaine Dugat-Py led the charge, setting fifteen New World Records, more than sixty percent of all eligible lots. Leroy, inclusive of Domaine, Maison, and D’Auvenay, experienced renewed strength with nineteen all-time highs on the day.
The Top Ten Lots went to Red and White Burgundy, with an appearance from Japanese Whisky. Domaine de la Romanee Conti claimed the number one and number three positions with a Methuselah of 1979 Romanee Conti garnering $128,516 and a magnum of 2003 Romanee Conti ringing in at $44,981. The number two spot went to Domaine Leroy, a case of 2007 Chambolle Musigny Les Fremieres capturing an impressive $48,194 and setting a New World Record. The remaining top lots were a seven-way tie, each bringing in $38,555! Three of the seven came from DRC, including four bottles of 2015 Montrachet and two separate lots of two bottles of 2001 Romanee Conti. Leroy also claimed three more spots with six bottles of 1996 Romanee St. Vivant, six bottles of 2015 Clos Vougeot, and a World Record-setting twelve bottles of 2008 Nuit St. Georges. Whisky rounded out the Top Ten with a 700ml of Karuizawa Aqua of Life Single Malt Japanese Whisky.
“Our July auction is always a smaller sale, yet it was still a powerful one, led by wines direct from the cellars of Dugat-Py,” commented Acker Chairman John Kapon. “The market continues to hold steady, drawing old and new buyers alike to the arena. We are already working hard on the second half of 2022, and we expect September to set the tone for a very robust Fall auction season!”
Acker is currently accepting consignments for the Fall auction season, which begins with a sale in the U.S. on September 8th and 9th and in Hong Kong on September 24th.
