DELAWARE – May 16, 2022 - The wine market continued to hold firm in Acker’s two-day May Delaware auction, with sales humming to the tune of US $8.5M of the world’s finest and rarest wines, setting a strong 243 New World Records. Burgundy earned 60% of the auction’s total hammers and occupied the first 29 of the auction’s top lots 30 lots, with the great Domaine de la Romanee Conti earning six positions of the Top Ten. The first non-Burgundy lot in position 30 was taken by a 49-bottle vertical of Sassicaia spanning 1968-2018 from the “Viva Italia” section of the auction, which featured direct-consignments from the great Italian producers Antinori, Ceretto, Tua Rita and Monsanto.

A 12 bottle OCB of 2000 Roumier Musigny took the top lot of the auction bringing in $161,850 - one of only four non-DRC lots to make the Top Ten. The others were represented by Armand Rousseau in position four with 12 bottles of 2005 Chambertin in OCB going for $80,925, and Domaine Leroy Musigny, with two bottles of 2003 selling for $68,475, and one bottle of 2005 bringing in $59,760, in positions seven and ten, respectively. The DRC parade in the Top Ten began with six magnums of 2010 Richebourg in OWC in position #2 raking in $87,150, followed by three bottles of 2010 Romanee Conti in OWC at $80,125. Fifth place was earned by six bottles of 1999 La Tache in OWC at $74,700, followed by a 2014 DRC Assortment at $68,475. A World Record Methuselah of 1999 Grands Echezeaux in OWC and three bottles of 2006 Romanee Conti in OWC tied for eighth place, fetching $62,250 each and rounding out DRC’s dominance of the Top Ten.

Said Acker Chairman John Kapon of the sale, “Another month, another fantastic auction! Despite financial market turbulence, the world’s appetite for fine wine remains robust, with $8.5M of sales in this auction alone. But don’t blink, because there is another robust sale in Hong Kong on May 27-28 with an even greater amount of wine led by wines direct from the cellars of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, plus selections from The Forbidden Cellar, The Golden Bull, and The Emperor. If you thought our Delaware sale was jampacked, just wait until you see this auction!”

Acker’s auction season continues in Hong Kong on May 27th & 28th. Acker is currently accepting wines for the last auctions of the season with a June 23rd auction in Delaware, a June 28th Spirits auction, and a July 10th wine auction in Hong Kong. Weekly web auctions close each week. For more information, email info@ackerwines.com.
