HONG KONG – SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 – Acker’s Fall auction season proceeded with a two-evening sale in Hong Kong on September 28th and 29th, realizing nearly HKD $50M/US $6M. Once again, Burgundy earned the highest prices in the auction, and fine wine continued to remain relatively stable despite global market volatility.
While five of the Top Ten Lots of the auction were held by Domaine de la Romanee Conti, the top lot of the sale was awarded to a 12-bottle case of 1993 H. Jayer Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux, which sold for an impressive US$192,774. A 1999 DRC Assortment in banded owc occupied the second slot bringing in $102,813, just before a three-way tie for third between a 12 bottle owc of the 1996 DRC Assortment, 12 bottles of 1999 Rousseau Chambertin, and 12-bottle banded owc’s of 2010 DRC La Tache, which all sold for $77,110. Position six was shared by two more DRC Assortment cases in the form of 1997 and 1998 owc’s which each brought in $64,258, before two cases of 2010 Rousseau Chambertin tied for fifth at $473,100. The Top Ten rounded out with two consecutive lots of three bottles 2011 Chevalier Montrachet D’Auvenay Leroy, each selling for $57,832.
Other highlights included six-packs of 2018 DRC La Tache and three-packs of Montrachet bringing in $38,555 for each lot sold. A 12-bottle lot of 1962 La Romanee by Maison Leroy sold for $51,406, alongside cases of 2009 Chambertin and 2010 Clos de Beze by Rousseau, which brought in the same. Six bottles of 1990 Dujac Bonnes Mares and 6 bottles 2005 Corton Charlemagne by Coche-Dury each garnered $44,981.
“Hong Kong received some good news in the past week with reduced quarantine restrictions, and the good news traveled fast to the sales floor in this week’s auction,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon. “With total September auction sales exceeding US$15M this month alone, wine has still proven itself to be a top-performing asset class. As we look ahead into the Fall, we are excited to announce two more amazing sales in October, including more from The Exceptional Cellar of John Tilson on October 13-14th in the US, and a single-cellar evening auction on Thursday, October 27th - The Eclipse Collection, Part I.
