The American Market proved its might as Acker’s “A Cut Above” two-day auction in Delaware rocked to $10 Million, catapulting Acker to $31.6 Million in auction sales thus far in 2022.  The entire sale on March 10th and 11th achieved 160% above the low estimate, continuing Acker’s market-leading results and commanding market share.  The exceptional cellar of John Tilson, built over nearly a half-century of tasting and collecting, created a buying frenzy, selling for nearly 200% above its pre-sale low estimate. Acker continued to achieve record-setting hammer prices, attaining 314 New World Records, with ninety-nine coming from Tilson’s collection, accounting for 52% of the collection's eligible lots.

Red Burgundy commanded the Top Ten lots, capturing eight out of ten, with Bordeaux and California emerging for the other two top spots.  First prize went to Domaine de la Romanee Conti with a twelve-bottle assortment from 1990 fetching an impressive $161,850, setting a New World Record.  Bordeaux made an appearance at number two with six magnums of 1982 Chateau Lafleur ringing in at $99,600.  Leroy achieved a New World Record in third place with two bottles of 2000 Musigny going for $80,925, and Roumier took fourth place with a case of 2002 Chambolle Musigny Amoureuses at $74,700.  An earlier single bottle of 2002 Amoureuses achieved a New World Record at $6,848.  California’s Screaming Eagle took fifth prize with a twelve-bottle vertical of Cabernet from 1992 to 2004 collecting $62,250, and it was back to Burgundy to round out the Top Ten.  At number six, a single bottle of 1962 Roumier Bonnes Mares hammered at a World-Record setting $56,025, an astounding ten times over the low estimate. Five magnums of 2001 Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Beze achieved the same price. Rousseau also took eighth prize with six bottles of 1999 Chambertin picking up $52,290, and DRC brought it home with a baker’s dozen Grands Echezeaux spanning 1996 through 2010, in a three-way tie with a case of 2002 DRC Romanee St. Vivant and five bottles of 1990 La Tache for $49,800 a piece.

Acker achieved more than 300 all-time highs, with top performances from DRC, with a remarkable thirty-four New World Records, Rousseau with twenty-two, Bizot and Dujac with nineteen each, and Leroy capturing eighteen all-time highs.  Other notable achievements include twelve New World Records for Domaine Leflaive and eleven for Diamond Creek. World Records from the Tilson collection were led by DRC, including twenty-one of the thirty-four total, and all the Diamond Creek records.
