Hong Kong, SAR – March 25, 2019 – The world’s most sought-after and collectible wines were eagerly bid on as collectors throughout Asia and beyond sought the world’s greatest names in wine during Acker’s March 23 auction in Hong Kong. The demand for the best showed no signs of abating as the firm sold HK$38 million/US$5 million in its first Hong Kong auction since the end of the 2019 Chinese New Year celebrations, welcoming the Year of the Pig in tasty fashion.

The auction’s Top 10 Lots reaffirmed the ongoing demand for the world’s most elite producers. The top lot in this hot auction was an OCB of 1990 Rousseau Chambertin that sold for $520,000 HK ($83,200 USD). Domaine de la Romanee Conti dominated most of the remaining Top Lots, with four bottles of 2007 Romanee Conti selling for HK$496,000 ($64,000 USD) and a banded OWC of the 1999 DRC Assortment trading at HK$471,200 ($60,800 USD). That case was followed by a banded OWC of the 1996 DRC Assortment, which sold at HK$372,000 ($48,000 USD). Two 12-bottle cases of two of Chateau Petrus’ greatest hits, the 1989 and 1990, were both purchased for HK$347,200 ($44,800 USD). Completing the Top 10 were successive DRC La Tache lots, twelve bottles of 2007 DRC La Tache, which also sold for HK$347,200 ($44,800 USD). The hammer went down on a 12-bottle OWC of 1989 DRC La Tache for HK$322,400 ($41,600 USD), followed by 10 bottles in OWC of the 2001 DRC La Tache at HK $272,800 ($35,200 USD). Completing the Top 10 were six bottles of the already legendary 2005 DRC La Tache that sold for HK$248,000 ($32,000 USD).

“As successful as this weekend’s auction was, I was probably asked as many questions this past week by Asian collectors about the unbelievable Chalet Collection we will auction on April 6 in NYC,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Clearly, the excitement about this superb collection has everyone buzzing again.”

“My own excitement about the auction, which is a mere two weeks away, is matched only by the excitement about our upcoming Bicentennial Anniversary.  Next year, Acker will celebrate being American’s oldest wine shop in a big way, but we’re starting the party now.  We’re already on a first-name basis with many of our friends and customers in both our auction and retail businesses, and now we’re making it official: We’ll now be known simply as “Acker,” and we are debuting our new identity in this catalog with a bold, clean logo that reflects the energy and modernity of our company and its people. A new identity that you will see in every catalog and communication with you moving forward, plus in the many celebrations we are planning as we near our Bicentennial.  We can’t wait to share more news with you in the months to come!”

The remarkable Chalet Collection will be sold in New York City on April 6, beginning at 10am (ET) at Marea. For more information about attending live or bidlive online, please go to  www.ackerwines.com and download the catalog.
