NEW YORK, March 4, 2019. Collectors worldwide competed in every important segment of the market in New York City on Saturday, March 2, as Acker’s auction delivered impressive results across the board. The robust demand for iconic wines continued unabated as more than $4.25 million was sold, highlighting the most sought-after brands and names of France, Italy, Spain, and California. Rousseau, DRC and Giacosa led the field of impressive wines, setting the stage for upcoming auctions on March 23rd in Hong Kong and April 6th in New York, featuring “The Chalet Collection, Part II.”

The auction’s Top Ten lots were a “Who’s Who” of Europe’s most coveted wines. A magnificent six-bottle lot of the 1991 Rousseau Chambertin was the top pick, selling for $59,520. Superb Bruno Giacosa lots followed with a very rare 10-bottle lot of the 1978 Barolo Collina Rionda Riserva, bought for $43,400, and six bottles of the 1982 Barolo Collina Rionda Riserva, which fetched $34,720. Two-banded six-bottle OWCs of DRC La Tache followed, with 2015 selling for $32,240 and 2010 for $24,800. A consistently strong day for Bordeaux was highlighted by a 12-bottle OWC of 1989 Haut Brion selling for $23,560. Returning to the spotlight were banded OWCs of DRC La Tache, with six bottles of the 2009 and 2012, and then 10 bottles of the 1985 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Santo Stefano Riserva, all selling for $23,560. Closing out the Top Ten was a six-bottle banded OWC of the 2011 DRC La Tache, purchased for $22,320.

“This was a perfect prelude to our upcoming Hong Kong auction and the highly anticipated return of ‘The Chalet Collection, Part II,’ both of which promise to be superb offerings,” said John Kapon, Chairman of Acker Merrall and Condit Companies. “The market continues to perform at all-time highs, bringing to Acker extraordinary selections every month. And the ever-increasing number of people with both the resources and savvy to acquire the world’s greatest wines mean that prices will continue to go up. History is still our greatest teacher.”

Acker’s next live auction will be held on March 23 in Hong Kong and features significant collections from Europe, an encore performance from ‘The Silver Fox’ focused on DRC and Burgundy, as well as classic and legendary vintages from Burgundy and Bordeaux. One of Europe’s greatest collectors will be on full display when “The Chalet Collection, Part II” goes live again in New York City on April 6.
