New York City – April 8, 2019 – Collectors scooped up nearly $5 million in fine and rare wines for their cellars as Acker set 137 New World Records this past weekend in New York City. Part II of the exclusive “Chalet Collection”—one of Europe’s preeminent cellars making a repeat performance—led the auction with numerous records from Burgundy’s iconic estates such as Domaine de la Romanee Conti, Comte Liger-Belair, Leroy, Domaine Leflaive and Raveneau. A noteworthy collection of Bruno Giacosa also tickled collectors’ fancies as the Italian legend set nine New World Records.

A rare six-bottle set of 2005 DRC Romanee Conti topped the auction this weekend, selling for $105,400. A 12-bottle lot of the legendary 1961 Chateau Latour followed at $49,600, succeeded in the rankings by two DRC Assortments in OWCs—1997 and 2011 from the Chalet Collection—as well as a 6-bottle lot of 1971 Giacosa Barolo Rocche di Castiglione Falletto Riserva, each selling for $39,680. The hammer went down for $37,200 on a rare banded Methuselah in OWC of 2001 DRC La Tache. Completing the sale’s Top 10 lots were a 12-bottle OCB of 2002 Rousseau Chambertin, a 12-bottle OWC of 2002 Domaine Leroy Clos de Vougeot, three successive six-bottle parcel lots of the 2005 DRC La Tache and a 12-bottle lot of the 2005 DRC Richebourg—all of which sold for $34,720.

“The list of greatest hits from the Chalet Collection would be too long to write, but you saw many of them firsthand in this weekend’s auction. It is always a thrill to offer wines from this extensive collection,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon, noting this auction set the stage for an important and distinct series of auctions by Acker, starting April 27 in Hong Kong.

“We will continue our run of amazing auctions with our first spirits auction in Hong Kong next month,  then one of the largest and most comprehensive offerings of Sine Qua Non wines by Elaine and Manfred Krankl in May in New York, followed by the personal collection of Rudi Wiest in June, which, to my knowledge, represents the deepest collection in North America of famous and super-rare German wines,” Kapon added. “And, of course, as our annual tradition has it, we will offer more wines direct from the incredible cellar of Comte Liger-Belair in June in Hong Kong. The schedule is still action packed before we break for summer!”

Tapping into the energy and demand for world-class whiskies and other spirits, Acker, the Number One Wine Auction Firm in the World, will conduct its first dedicated Spirits Auction in Hong Kong on May 11. On May 15, Acker will bring the domestic king of Syrah to New York City by way of Sine Qua Non (SQN), offering one of the largest and most comprehensive auctions ever of this West Coast cult winery.  Proceeds of the consignment will be donated to two charities, one of which will be selected by founders Elaine and Manfred Krankl. On June 8, the Comte Louis-Michel Liger-Belair returns to Hong Kong in an exciting finale to the first six months of the live auction season, along with the remarkable personal collection of Rudi Wiest, the renowned importer of Germany’s most noble wines, which will be auctioned in New York City on June 19
