New York City, NY – September 9th, 2019 – Acker launched its Fall auction season in New York on Thursday and Saturday, September 5th and 7th, and collectors worldwide came back from their Summer holiday with a vengeance, setting
188 New World Records and snapping up
more than $7 million of the world’s finest and rarest wines. With the launch of their estimated
$6M September 20-21 Hong Kong live auction, the move to
weekly web auctions instead of monthly, as well as initiating
London bonded wine storage transfers and services for its global buyers, September has been a busy and innovative month for America’s oldest wine shop.

A rare six-bottle lot of the 2005
DRC Romanee Conti was the auction’s highest-selling lot, bought for $111,600. Then, two twelve-bottle OCBs of the 1999
Rousseau Chambertin and Chambertin Clos de Beze followed, selling for $62,000 and $59,520 respectively. A superb 32 magnum instant collection of
Vega Sicilia Unico in OWCs took the fourth slot at $55,800. Bordeaux joined the party with six magnums of the 1990
Chateau Petrus in OWC selling for $52,080. Burgundy swept the remaining five slots with three bottles of 1991
Domaine Leroy Musigny purchased for $39,680, followed by a very rare OWC methuselah of the 2001
DRC La Tache at $37,200 and three magnums in OCB of the 2015 Rousseau Chambertin that sold for $32,240. The final Top Ten slots were both purchased for $29,760 – six bottles of the 2005 DRC La Tache and six magnums of the 2002
Ramonet Montrachet.

Of the 188 New World Records set in the sale, Burgundy set over 64% of them. Notable is that 36 of these new records were set by white Burgundy producers, as collectors bid fervently to acquire the top wines of
Coche-Dury, Ramonet, Leflaive, Raveneau, Ente, Sauzet, Niellon, and Drouhin. The New World Records for Burgundy were led by an impressive 14 for
Dujac spanning 1980-2016, nine for
Arnaud Ente, seven each for
Roumier and Coche-Dury, and 6 each for Rousseau and the
Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Italy was also on fire in New York City, setting 31 New World Records across the names most coveted by collectors, led by
Giacomo Conterno, Giuseppe Mascarello, Roagna, and Soldera.

“After the busiest summer I’ve ever experienced, it was great to be back behind the podium again! Three world-class collections – “Mr. Burgundy,” “The Mayfair Man” and “The Return of the French Connection” drew lots of attention before the auction, and deservedly so. Almost 200 New World Records followed, which to me means ‘game on’ for the Fall season! We’re eagerly looking forward to our Hong Kong sale on September 21st and 22nd,” said J
ohn Kapon, Chairman of Acker. “With our new ‘In Bond in London’ initiative, the move to weekly web auctions, our second ever Spirits only auction, and the buildup to our 200th Anniversary celebration in 2020, all I can say is WOW! This will certainly be one of the most exciting seasons I have ever experienced!”
