New York City, NY – October 21, 2019 – New York City was alive and aglow at Acker’s “Friday Night Lights” auction on Friday, October 18th at Bouley Test Kitchen in New York City, where sales totaled an estimated US$4.25 Million. Scarcity proved most magnetic as collectors clamored for more top Burgundies, older Californians, exceptional Italians and fantastic Rhone wines amongst a backbone of big-time Bordeaux. There will be no rest for the weary, as Acker gets ready for back to back auctions in Hong Kong the first two weekends of November, featuring Fine and Rare Spirits on November 2nd, and wines from the legendary cellars of Domaine Jean-Louis Chave on November 9th.
France swept the Top 10 Lots, led by a rare twelve bottle case of 1985 Dujac Clos de la Roche which sold for $62,000, followed by two superb and equally rare Ramonet Montrachet lots. A four-bottle lot of the 1978 Ramonet Montrachet—the first vintage ever made of this famous wine—was bought for $37,200, as was a twelve-bottle selection of the great 1990 Ramonet Montrachet. Twelve-bottle lots of the 1962 Maison Leroy La Romanee and 2015 Chateau Le Pin in OWC took the number four and five slots, selling for $34,720 and $32,240 respectively, as did a six-bottle lot of the 1990 Dujac Clos de la Roche. Two magnums of the 1992 Ramonet Montrachet and a twelve bottle lot of the 1991 Gentaz-Dervieux Cote Rotie Cuvee Reservee both sold for $29,760. Completing the Top 10 Lots were a magnum of the 1971 DRC La Tache and a twelve-bottle lot of the 1978 Chateau Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape, both of which were purchased for $27,280.
“It always feels like coming home when we host an auction with David Bouley, still arguably the best chef in New York City after all these years. The highlights from this sale show that the market remains healthy and active. No matter what else is happening in the world, people still want their fine and rare wine,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon. “And they want their fine and rare Spirits! On November 2nd will be our second Spirits only, “Acker Distilled” auction, which is almost double the size of our first with an estimated $1.5-2 Million available. We will follow that with our landmark sale on November 9th, which includes a Historic Offering Direct from the Cellars of Domaine Jean-Louis Chave. This is an unprecedented offering of almost sixty lots from the Domaine’s collection back to 1923, and also features the worldwide debut of the 2010 Chave Ermitage Cuvée Cathelin. Honor and privilege are an understatement for us. There is no question Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is one of the greatest producers of wine in the world, and we cannot wait for everyone to see what’s on offer this week!”
Consignment deadlines of November 1st and November 15th are approaching for Acker’s last sales of 2019 in Hong Kong and New York, and its weekly web auction are constantly closing. For more information please email info@ackerwines.com.
