Hong Kong – December 9, 2019 – Collectors once again clamored over the greatest wines in the world at Acker’s “LXXIV” auction on Saturday, December 7th in Hong Kong, the company’s final live auction of the decade in its Asian hub. Despite continued social unrest in the city, clients showed that they still want their fine and rare wine, resulting in a healthy, brisk day on the auction salesroom floor. The firm will host its very last live sale of the decade in New York on December 12th, before its Bicentennial year begins in 2020 with sales in Hong Kong on January 11th and New York February 8th.
All but one of the Top 10 Lots of the auction were wines from Domaine de la Romanée Conti. The first through third top lots were taken by DRC’s 2005 vintage: 12 bottles of Romanée Conti, and parcel lots of 12 bottles of La Tâche selling for HKD$1,934,400/USD$248,000 and HKD$446,400/USD$57,231 respectively. The fourth and fifth positions were taken by pairs of bottles of Romanée Conti 2002 and 2005, which both fetched HKD$297,600/USD$38,154. The sixth position also went to the 2005 vintage, with 12 bottles of DRC Richebourg realizing HKD$272,800/USD$34,974. Tied for sixth place was the only lot from the Top Ten that was not DRC; two six-bottle banded original wood cartons of 2009 Château Pétrus also sold for HKD$272,800/USD$34,974. The final three spots of the Top Ten returned to DRC’s Romanée Conti, with two bottle lots of 2007, 2009, and 2010 Romanée Conti all fetching HKD$248,000/USD$31,795.
“To think that we’re going into our thirteenth year of auctions in Hong Kong as we head into a new decade could not make me prouder, and there is so much on the horizon for 2020,” said Acker Chairman John Kapon. “Hong Kong continues to prove that it is the center of the wine universe in Asia, and there are no signs of that changing despite continued unrest. With three major auctions over the next eight weeks, we will be celebrating the holidays in both HK and the US with some incredible new collections for our clients. We will close out 2019 and the decade on December 12th in New York with our annual Holiday Party. Then the January 11th Hong Kong auction will welcome the Year of the Rat in fine fashion, led by one of our most impressive featured collections of the past year. Our 200th Anniversary in America will officially kick off with our Bicentennial auction on February 7th and 8th and mark my words, that will be one for the ages, with numerous events leading up to the weekend, and an auction featuring 200 lots direct from forty of the world’s finest Domaines to celebrate Acker’s 200 year history!”
Acker is always accepting wines for consignment. Weekly web auctions are closing every week, and the first live auction deadline for 2020 will be January 10th. For more information email info@ackerwines.com.
