Focus on Saint Julien Terroir Tasting
Tuesday, March 12th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Though the smallest appellation in the Medoc, with only 910 hectares under vine, Saint Julien has the highest ratio of classed growths than any other region in Bordeaux. St. Julien produces wines of extreme power, much like its neighbor Pauillac to the north. There is a majestic concentration to these wines, particularly from the group of wines called “Super Seconds.” The best terroirs of the appellation have gentle slopes, off of the plateau, down to the Gironde, creating a unique microclimate. It is the gravelly soils of St. Julien that make these wines particularly beguiling, with aromas of red fruit and graphite. This tasting offers the chance to taste the many Châteaux of the appellation to understand their signatures.
Wines Include: 1982 Beychevelle; 1986 Gruaud Larose; 1990 Leoville Barton; 2000 Leoville-Las Cases; 2000 Ducru Beaucaillou; 2000 Leoville Poyferre; 2000 Talbot; 2000 Langoa Barton; 2000 Gloria; 2005 Saint-Pierre; 2006 Lagrange; 2009 Hortevie; 2014 Lalande Borie.

Revenge of the Cornas Tasting
Tuesday March 19th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Though one of the smaller appellations in the Northern Rhône, Cornas produces some of the most powerful and concentrated expressions of Syrah in the world. These wines are full of dark fruit and olives with mouth-coating tannins that allow the wines to age seamlessly for decades. It is the unfortunate passing of some of the appellation’s legends, like Auguste Clape and Noel Verset, that have brought new attention to the region and increased prices and interest on the wines. Though the producers that created the mythology are gone, new winemakers have taken up the mantle and are continuing to make traditionally styled wines. It is the special amphitheater-like geography of the vineyards that concentrates the heat of the sun, bringing ideal ripening conditions to these granite soils. We will taste the evolution of new and old producers to see how tradition is being preserved in this historic region of the Rhône Valley.
Wines Include: 1995 and 2000 Noel Verset; 1989, 1997, and 1998 A. Clape; 1997 T. Allemand Chaillot; 1998 and 2001 T. Allemand Reynard; 2015 M. Juge; 2014 and 2015 F. Balthazar Chaillot; 2010 A. Voge Vieilles Vignes; 2015 A. Voge Vieilles Vignes Fontaines; 2009 and 2010 Alain Verset; 2014 and 2015 V. Paris Geynale.

Ridge Monte Bello and Mount Eden Tasting with Bob Cunningham and Ellie Patterson from Mount Eden
Tuesday April 2nd, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Join us for a side-by-side tasting of two California originals. The Santa Cruz Mountains are one of the great terroirs of the wine world and we are honored to have Mount Eden and Ridge in a vintage to vintage showdown. Mount Eden Vineyards is a small historic wine estate perched at 2000 feet overlooking Silicon Valley in the Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation, about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Founded in 1945, it is recognized as one of the original “boutique” California winery properties, focusing on small lots of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Monte Bello vineyard traces its roots back to 1885. The terroir is one of few sites that contains limestone in the subsoil. The vineyard sits at 2300 feet which is well above the fog line. This accounts for the wines terrific structure and ability to age for decades. Both wines are true California classics. For those looking for old school, terroir driven wines with character this tasting is for you.
Wines, direct from the wineries, include Ridge Monte Bello and Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon from: 1985, 1995, 2005, 2010, 2012. Plus, Ridge Monte Bello Chardonnay and Mount Eden Chardonnay from: 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014.

Marchand-Grillot Winemaker Dinner at Racines
Tuesday April 16th, 2019
Racines
94 Chambers St
New York, NY 10007
The Marchand and Grillot families are both deeply rooted in the vineyards of Burgundy— Marchand from Morey-St. Denis, and Grillot from Gevrey-Chambertin, joined by marriage in 1950. Today it is run by Jacques Marchand and his children Etienne and Marion, the sixth generation. It is a pleasure to welcome both Etienne and Marion for a wine dinner during their first trip to New York! They continue to render traditional wines without compromise. The 9 hectare domaine is composed of 48 parcels, each harvested and vinified separately. The elegant style of Marchand-Grillot is accomplished by slightly earlier picking, though not certified organic, they follow organic practices, preferring natural methods to unnecessary interventions.
Pours will be generous for this fun and informative dinner! We will be having the 2015s from Morey St. Denis, as well as Gevrey Chambertins from Au Velle, En Jouise, En Songe, En Creot, Petite Chapelle and Perrieres vineyards plus a few more surprises!

Stars of Barbaresco Tasting with Bob Cunningham
Thursday April 18th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Just to the northeast of Alba, rather than Barolo’s southwest aspect, lies Barbaresco. Often considered the feminine cousin to burly Barolo, Barbaresco holds a lower elevation and closer proximity to the Tanaro river, allowing for the vines to ripen earlier and harvest to begin usually a week earlier. Furthermore, the high percentage of sand in the chalky marl and sandstone soil makes for lighter weight wines. Some of the star producers from Barolo do crossover to Barbaresco, but it is the Barbaresco-based producers that excel at expressing the nuances of these elegant terroirs.
Wines Include: 1996 Gaja Sori San Lorenzo; 2001 Gaja Sori Tildin; 1997 Gaja Costa Russi; 1998 Giacosa Santo Stefano Riserva; 2001 Giacosa Asili; 1997 Giacosa Rabaja; 1985 Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva; 2004 Produttori del Barbaresco Muncagota; 2009 Produttori del Barbaresco Rio Sordo Riserva; 1998 Ceretto Asij; 2006 Roagna Crichet Paje; 2011 Roagna Montefico; 2011 Roagna Asili; 2009 Sottimano Cotta; 2010 Castello di Neive Santo Stefano; 2004 Marchesi di Gresy Martinenga Camp Gros.

2009 Versus 2010 Burgundy Tasting
Tuesday April 23rd, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
2009 and 2010 were a series of historic and bounteous vintages for the often down-trodden Burgundians. The 2009 vintage was dry and warm, with nearly no hail throughout the Côte d’Or. The wines were so attractive in their youth, that many winemakers scoffed at the high quality yet diminished acidity of the wines, though critics heaped on adoration. In contrast, vignerons in 2010 feared that their grapes would never ripen, allowing for acidity to soar when warmth finally came to ripen the grapes in September. The 2010s offer great purity and elegance, while the 2009s are burly and fruit-forward. Now ten years on, we look forward to comparing these two renowned vintages side-by-side from some of our favorite producers.
Wines Include: S. Cathiard Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts; Hudelot-Noellat Vosne-Romanée Suchots; Vogüé Musigny VV; Drouhin Grands-Echezeaux; Mugneret-Gibourg Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes; Roumier Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere; Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin; R. Chateau Pichon Baron Versus Pichon Lalande Showdown
Thursday April 25th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Hailing from Pauillac, the Pichon Lalande estate begat Château Pichon Longueville Baron in an episode of familial succession. In 1850, Joseph de Pichon-Longueville divided his estate, giving two fifths of the vineyards to his sons and three fifths to his three daughters. The daughters, along with their mother, the Comtesse de Lalande, established Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, producing feminine wines, with a high percentage of Merlot, for decades. Pichon Baron, in the hands of the ancestral sons until 1933, produces Cabernet Sauvignon-focused wines in a muscular and masculine style with slightly more rusticity. We look forward to comparing the long-lost brother and sister of Pauillac at this excellent opportunity to explore historic vintages.
Vintages to include both wines from: 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996, and 2000.

Penfolds Grange Dinner at The Musket Room
Tuesday April 30th, 2019
The Musket Room
265 Elizabeth St
New York, NY 10012
Penfolds Grange is perhaps the greatest wine to ever come out of Australia from this lauded estate that dates back to 1844. Their flagship wine, Grange, was former-winemaker Max Schubert’s Australian effort to challenge top-scoring Bordeaux. Blending native Shiraz from the Barossa Valley with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine achieved immediate success. The older bottlings bear the name ‘Hermitage,’ referencing that it was perhaps the Northern Rhône, not Bordeaux, that these wines emulated. These wines are long-lived, sumptuous, and express the terroir of Australia unlike any other wine. It is our pleasure to present this 17-vintage vertical of Penfolds Grange.
Vintages to include; 1971, 1975, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998.

Jacques-FArédéric Mugnier Dinner at Marea
Thursday May 23rd, 2019
Marea Restaurant
240 Central Park S
New York, NY 10019
Frédéric Mugnier is celebrated for producing elegant and silky wines that exemplify the pure fruit and minerality of Chambolle-Musigny. His flagship wine is his Musigny. The signature-free style of Mugnier is the perfect vehicle to express Musigny’s multidimensional terroir. Frédéric Mugnier is the second largest owner of Musigny with vines dating back to 1948. His Amoureuses, lies just below Musigny and is his second greatest wine. Along with Roumier, Mugnier makes the best example of this heralded terroir. The premier cru Les Fuées is a connoisseur’s favorite, displaying intense minerality which captures the wildness of Morey St. Denis more than the silkiness of Chambolle-Musigny. From 50-year-old vines, Les Fuées is Mugnier's personal favorite vineyard because of its tremendous fruit quality. Join us for this rare retrospective of one of the greatest domaines of Burgundy.
Wines include: 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005 and 2002 Musigny; 2002, 2001, 2000, and 1999 Amoureuses; 2006, 2004, 2002, and 1999 Fuées.

Domaine Tempier Dinner at Marseille
Tuesday May 28th, 2019
Marseille
630 9th Ave
New York, NY 10036
Domaine Tempier, just outside of the Mediterranean port of Bandol, has been a stalwart in the Kermit Lynch portfolio for over 40 years. Lulu and her husband Lucien Peyraud were gifted the domaine, then an active farm, upon their marriage and then sought to establish Bandol as its own A.O.C., doing the research to discover that Mourvèdre was the most appropriate varietal for the region. The Peyraud family, with the help of gastronomes Richard Olney and Alice Waters, solidified Bandol as a region renowned for Provençal cuisine—not just rosé! The various cuvées of Domaine Tempier express the differences in the terroir of the area. La Migoua is the highest elevation parcel with the lowest amount of Mourvèdre in the blend. Cabassaou is situated lower on the hillside, sheltered from the intense Mistral winds, attaining the greatest ripeness for the Mourvèdre-heavy blend. La Tourtine sits above Cabassaou, on rich, clay soil, producing powerfully tannic and richly fruited wines. These are wines that crave food and we look forward to enjoying them with a rustic, Provençal meal at Marseille.
Wines Include: 1988 La Loufee Cuvée Speciale; 1988, 1989, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2001 La Cabassaou; 1988, 1989, 1990, 1998, 1999, and 2001 La Tourtine; 1988, 1990, 1998, 2000, and 2001 La Migoua.

Chateau Latour Vertical Dinner
Thursday May 30th, 2019
Jean Georges Restaurant
1 Central Park West
New York, NY 10023
As one of the oldest wine producers in Bordeaux, Chateau Latour took its name from the now destroyed Tower of Saint-Maubert, built in 1331 to guard the Gironde Estuary through the Hundred Years War. From 1695 to 1755, Latour and Lafite shared ownership by the Ségur family, through the 1855 classification of the Médoc. At the heart of Latour’s terroir is the 47-hectare parcel referred to as “L’Enclos.” Atop a 16-meter croupe of gravel, l’Enclos is considered by many to be the finest vineyard in Bordeaux and the epitome of Pauillac— close enough to the river to provide the ideal microclimate. The wines of Chateau Latour are incredibly long-lived and full of strength; arguably the greatest and most age worthy of all the First Growths. With age, the powerful tannins blend seamlessly into the wines and the wines begin to approach their peak only after at least thirty years of bottle age. It is a special occasion to have this ancient vertical of Chateau Latour back to 1908.
Vintages will include: 1908, 1918, 1922, 1923, 1924, 1926, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1946, 1957, 1959 and 1961.

Morey Saint Denis Terroir Exploration Tasting
Wednesday June 5th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
Though Morey-Saint-Denis was the final village in Burgundy to hyphenate its name with a famous vineyard, it must have been a difficult choice as to which vineyard to select. Of the 137 hectares of the village, 40 of those are grand cru—Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint Denis, Clos de Tart, Clos des Lambrays, and a portion of Bonnes Mares. The wines of Morey are primarily known for their balance. Whereas, Chambolle is associated with delicacy and Gevrey is known for its power, Morey, geographically between the two, represents an equilibrium. The best of the premier and grand cru wines harnesses this balance to create wines with excellent aging potential and the average quality of the wines produced in Morey is perhaps the highest in the whole Côte d’Or. Not only will this tasting demonstrate the high quality across the village of Morey, but it will also be an excellent evening of some of Burgundy’s greatest wines.
Wines Include: 1995 H. Lignier Clos de la Roche; 2000 Dujac Clos St. Denis; 2002 Clos des Lambrays; 1998 Clos de Tart; 2011 Dujac Clos de la Roche; 2010 Ponsot Clos de la Roche VV; 2002 Jadot Bonnes Mares; 2005 Roumier Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere; 2011 Fougeray Bonnes Mares; 2009 Bruno Clair Bonnes Mares; 2005 F. 1989 Versus 1990 Bordeaux Blind at Benoit
Thursday June 6th, 2019
Benoit
60 W 55th St
New York, NY 10019
Even 30 years later critics and aficionados agree that 1989 has proven itself to be one of the greatest vintages in Bordeaux. This vintage was one of the largest crops of all time throughout Bordeaux, where both the Left and Right Banks produced exceptional wines. The extremely hot summer resulted in big, ripe and fleshy wines, which were immediately appealing. Because of their low acidity and ripeness of fruit, buttressed with intense tannins, these wines are stunning now, but also have a great future ahead of them; they seem to be packing on more density and weight as they mature. The 1989s exhibit tremendous grace and elegance as they begin to hit their peak drinking window.
Wines on this night include: Chateau Haut Brion; La Mission Haut Brion; Lafite; Margaux; Cheval Blanc; Montrose; Palmer; Lynch Bages; La Conseillante; Lafleur; Leoville Las Cases; Leoville Barton; Pichon Lalande; Pichon Baron; L'Évangile; Vieux Chateau Certain; Calon Segur; Figac; and Cos d'Estournel.

Dauvissat Chablis Dinner at Jungsik
Tuesday June 11th, 2019
Jungsik
2 Harrison St
New York, NY 10013
René Dauvissat, along with brother-in-law François Raveneau, has made the greatest Chablis from the oldest and best vineyards in the region. The Dauvissat domaine has sold wine under their own label since 1931 and are staunch traditionalists, making wines with minimal intervention. A signature of the traditional school in Chablis, the wines are aged in smaller, 132L oak barrels, called feuillettes, allowing the wines to breathe during élévage, softening the highly acidic Chardonnay over time. The Dauvissat family has long held the coveted grand cru sites of Les Clos and Les Preuses, along with their flagship premier cru, La Forêt. The synthesis of the old vines, classic Kimmeridgian soil, and recently implemented biodynamic practices, make Dauvissat one of the producers to taste as the benchmark for great Chablis. Though recent vintages fraught by hail and frost have significantly reduced production, these wines remain unparalleled and we look forward to tasting them along with a seafood-focused menu at Jungsik.
Wines Include: 1990, 1998, 1999, 2002, and 2008 Les Clos; 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2009 Les Preuses; 2005, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 La Forest; 2010 Vaillons.

Aged German Riesling
Thursday June 13th, 2019
Michelangelo Hotel
152 W 51st St
New York, NY 10019
1971 and 1976 are heralded as two of Germany’s greatest vintages. 1971 had an outstanding growing season with perfect conditions in summer and autumn, resulting in wines with excellent ripeness and acidity. They have a magical harmony of acidity and richness which have allowed them to age gracefully for decades. 1976 produced richer, more opulent wines with a higher incidence of noble rot. They have great concentration and harmony, which has made them extremely age worthy. Both the 1971 and 1976 can be compared to other great vintages such as: 1953, 1959, 1990 and 2001, with 1971 being cleaner and purer and 76 richer and riper. It will be fascinating to compare these two legendary vintages. Aged Riesling is all about balance rather than brawn and over-the-top oak. Their finesse belies their intense aromas and powerful flavors which unfold and develop with age. No white wine grape can age as long as the noble Riesling or adopt its variety of styles so seamlessly.
Wines include: 1971 Mathias Kramp-Eilens Riesling Auslese Kupp; 1971 Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Riesling Auslese Hofberg; 1971 Joh. Jos. Prüm Riesling Spätlese Graacher Himmelreich; 1971 Von Simmern Riesling Beerenauslese Nussbrunnen; 1971 Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium Riesling Auslese Ockfener Geisberg; 1971 Sanctus Jacobus Spätlese Scharzhofberger; 1971 Karl Joh. Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill Dinner at Atera
Tuesday June 18th, 2019
Atera
77 Worth St
New York, NY 10013
Launched in 1984 with the 1975 vintage, marking the 20th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s death, Pol Roger’s Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill continues to impress in a way that would have been sure to please the former Prime Minister. Pol Roger’s tête de cuvee in honor of Winston Churchill has been declared in only 17 vintages since its inception and only 25-50,000 bottles are produced per declared vintage. Churchill was, for many years, Pol Roger’s greatest client, having a strong preference for the 1928 and 1934 vintages. The cépage for his cuvée remains Pinot Noir dominant, creating a more fruit-driven, vinous drink. Cuvée Winston Churchill is aged 10 years in bottle prior to release with 7 g/L dosage, resulting in a mouth-coating and rich Champagne. We are thrilled to once again enjoy a splendid lineup of Champagne at Atera.
Vintages include: 2008; 2006; 2004; 2002; 2000; 1999; 1998; 1996; 1995; 1990; 1985; and 1982 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill; plus 1982, 1975, 1971 Pol Roger Brut and 1990 Pol Roger Brut Rosé.
