Four barrels. Where will the bottles end up, I wonder? A tad reduced but what a haunting nose and with lots of really very beautiful fruit. Beautiful balance between the fruit and the framework. With an undertow of macerated cherries just coming to the fore. Fabulous. Great restraint and energy.

Bright, dark red. Very ripe yet sappy aromas of crushed red berries and rocky minerality. Less generous and obvious today in the middle palate than the Bonnes-Mares in spite of its full ripeness, owing to its uncanny mineral tension. This wonderfully weightless wine is best today on its rising, palate-staining crescendo of a finish, which leaves the mouth perfumed.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Amoureuses has plenty of gourmand fruit on the nose with blackberry and a stain of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins that provide the focus and length. This already feels rounded in the mouth, sensual as this premier cru should be, it segues into a complex and slightly meaty finish. This is a fine Amoureuses, although whether it is the best of 2013 is another question because at the moment, it feels just a little skinnier than the Amoureuses from say, Patrice Rion or Domaine de la Pousse d’Or.
