2018 Michele Alois Falanghina Caulino 750ml
Located in New York
Michele Alois has been growing indigenous grape varieties in the foothills of the Caiatini Mountains of Campania since the early 1990s, surrounded by three volcanoes. The world famous Vesuvius is the backdrop to his sustainably farmed vineyards, located on rocky outcrops of tufo (tuff), mineral-rich deposits formed by volcanic activity many millennia ago. Volcanic wines have a sensual minerality, and this delightful Falanghina is no exception. The 30 year old vines give the wine hints of lemongrass and spice, while a month resting on the fine lees, along with malolactic in stainless steel, lends the wine enough texture to hold up to strong cheeses, creamy pastas and grilled vegetables.
