The 2016 Petits Monts is a legend in the making. Stylistically, it reminds me a little bit of a cross of the 1991 and 2010 versions, just to give some idea of how beautiful this wine is in 2016. The beautifully refined and perfumed nose delivers a constellation of black cherries, black plums, espresso, a complex base of soil, fresh nutmeg, duck, a touch of nutty new oak and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, deep and full-bodied, with a velvety attack, lovely sappiness at the core, great soil signature and grip and a long, suavely-tannic and very, very refined finish. The team at Maison Drouhin included thirty percent whole clusters in the Petits Monts this year. A great wine. 2026-2075.
