Reviews & Scores
"Beppe Rinaldi's 1971 Barolo is an outstanding example of the vintage, but it is also the youngest 1971 I have tasted in quite some time and really needs another decade in the cellar to start to drop its backend tannin and really start to drink within its plateau of peak maturity! The bouquet is deep and classically complex, wafting from the glass in a fine blend of cherries, sweet onions, gamebird, fresh oregano, camphor and sous bois. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and absolutely rock solid at the core, with good acids, fine focus and grip and still a surprisingly robust bit of tannin on the long finish. This is approachable today, but it is still a fairly young wine and I would opt to keep it tucked away in the cellar for at least another eight to ten years and really let it reach its apogee."
