The monks of Abbaye de Fontevraud would have tended the clay, limestone and tuffeau soils around the present site of Chateau Yvonne back in the 12th century, but it wasn’t until 1813 that the property became known for its wines. Named for Yvonne Lamunière who transformed the abandoned property back in 1997, the organically farmed Chateau Yvonne is considered one of Saumur’s finest. This old vine, oak aged Chenin Blanc is bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal sulfur. Native yeasts help to highlight the true taste of this ancient terroir, with sublime notes of hay, ripe peach and oak on the palate. Pair with pan-fried chicken or turbot.
