The 2021er Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Spätlese “Speyer” was made from fruit picked at 83° Oechsle in this prime Lieu-Dit situated in the upper part of the original Ritsch of the vineyard and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (56 g/l). It offers a superb even if still rather ripe and reduced nose made of fine herbal elements, melon, whipped cream, citrus, smoke, and slate. The wine proves beautifully slender and yet subtly creamy on the palate. A gorgeous touch of ripe acidity adds cut to the long and hugely juicy finish. The aftertaste reveals still some of the reduced elements at this stage so we would opt to wait a bit before enjoying our bottles. It could then easily exceed our high expectations, especially as the freshness takes over. 2029-2041.
