Reviews & Scores
This has finally arrived at its peak with soft but not invisible wood influence setting off spicy, wonderfully complex and fully mature aromas of earth and a hint of the sauvage. There is also excellent depth and concentration to the powerful, energetic and velvety broad-shouldered flavors that possess outstanding length. A terrific Lignier Clos de la Roche that is drinking perfectly now and should continue to do so for many years to come.

The bouquet is deep, pure and nicely starting to show some secondary development in its nose of plums, black cherries, grilled venison, dark chocolate, a fine base of soil, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and tangy, with a rock solid core, excellent soil signature, ripe, beautifully-integrated acids and a very long, complex and still fairly youthful finish.

The 1993 Clos de la Roche is medium-to-dark ruby-colored with hints of amber on the edge of the glass. Its initially kinky, slightly barnyard-like aromas blew off quickly to display loads of spicy cedar scents. Medium-to-full-bodied, this earth, stone, black fruit-laden wine is well-concentrated and dense. It possesses its vintage's firm, dry, tannic backbone but has the potential to have the depth of fruit to overcome this trait with age. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2010+.
