Reviews & Scores
The expressive and now largely secondary nose is certainly ripe yet without the excesses of the vintage. There is fine desity to the relatively power medium-bodied flavors that are supple, rich and finely structured while displaying fine complexity on the solidly persistent finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This lovely effort is close to its peak but it is a wine that should hold for another 20+ years. I would add that the 2003 Lambrays is unusually concentrated and powerful yet not so much that it loses its sense of harmony.
BH93
Very seductive nose – concentrated and with some development – opulent and rich with quite enough acidity and great depth and character. A massive wine but it has everything in balance.
JR18/20
Aged in 75% new oak, the tobacco, blackberry, leather, and tar-scented 2003 Clos des Lambrays is medium to full-bodied, dense, and chewy. Hugely tannic yet concentrated and deep, this is a brooding chocolate, plum, blackberry, spice, smoky mineral, and black raspberry-flavored wine. Uncivilized and firm, it will benefit from cellaring.
WA92
An opulent, exotic red. Packed with Asian spices, sweet blackberry and raspberry ganache notes, a swath of dense tannins and new oak for support. Vibrant, and sings now, but needs time to fulfill its potential. Great length. *Collectible, Top 100 of 2006*
