Reviews & Scores
Beautifully perfumed, this red features rose, peony, black currant, tar and licorice aromas and flavors. This is ripe and dense, with well-integrated tannins and acidity that funnel the fruit and savory notes into a long aftertaste. Complex and intense. Best from 2013 through 2026. *Top 100 Wines of 2011, Highly Recommended*
Good dark red. Fascinating, enticing aromas of wild strawberry, green cardamom, flowers and mango, plus a suggestion of white fruits. A supple, chewy midweight, with rich flavors of redcurrant, pomegranate and guava lifted by a lively floral element. This spicy, elegant, nicely balanced wine finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins and very good length, plus a late note of apricot. Very much a "northern" style of Brunello.
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is an exciting, full-throttle wine bursting with dark fruit, mocha, chocolate, spices, roasted coffee beans and spices. The intensity of the fruit builds towards the enveloping, round finish. Despite its size, the wine is already pretty open. I don’t think this will be a long-term ager, but it should drink very nicely over the medium term. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020.
La Serena offers an amazing wine with rich smoothness and loads of chocolate and cherry intensity. In the mouth, the wine tastes round and soft with bright almond and cinnamon notes on the close. Pair it with saltimbocca, or veal steaks wrapped in ham and sage leaf.
I am impressed with the minerals, blackberries and dried flowers on the nose. Lavender too. Full body, with masses of fruit and tannins, yet refined and polished. Incredibly decadent. Made from organic grapes.
