Pétrus is one of the most famous and rarest wines in the world. Its reputation, quality and legendary status is well earned. Pétrus sits on a perfect terroir of iron rich clay in the middle of Pomerol’s plateau. Yields are intensely restricted to produced one of the most profoundly rich and complex wines on the planet. The reign of Petrus has been unchallenged for decades, however there are a few excellent Pomerols that can make wines of equal intensity.
One is the great Château Trotanoy. Trotanoy has been an insider’s favorite of Bordeaux collectors for many years due to its high quality, ability to age and pricing as compared to Petrus. Like Petrus it is owned by the Moueix family but by a different branch. The terroir consists of black clay and gravel on clay on the plateau of Pomerol. This fascinating comparative tasting will give you valuable insights into two of the greatest wines of Pomerol. We will taste blind so you can let your palate guide you as to which of these extraordinary wines you prefer.
