A Significant Cellar’s First Time
Acker welcomes springtime with a 1000+ lot sale live online from Delaware on Wednesday and Thursday April 12 and 13. The auction, which starts at 5pm ET both days, features significant collections including Wines from The Kingsman, The Foodie and The Oenophile, A Significant Cellar’s First Time and Magnificent Wines of a European Connoisseur.
Our first and biggest consignment of the auction, A Significant Cellar’s First Time in Lots 1-232, comes to us courtesy of a longtime collector and first-time consignor. This superb collection hails from a noted philanthropist who has been on our radar as a very serious and known collector, and we are delighted he has finally consigned a bit of his collection with us.
Over two hundred selections are on the block from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Champagne, Italy, Spain, and California! Bordeaux was our consignor’s first wine love and there are fifty plus lots reflecting a half century of outstanding vintages, including full cases of 2005 Angelus, 1985 Lafite, 1985 Mouton, and 1982 Pichon Lalande. Welcome to the Big Time with large formats abounding, such as magnums of 1945 Calon Segur and 1989 Haut Brion, as well as double magnums of Le Pin and Petrus both from the monumental millennium vintage!
There is a similar amount of Burgundy including seventeen selections featuring Domaine de la Romanee Conti centering around multiple OWCs of the benchmark 2005 vintage! The Red Burgundy red carpet rollout continues with Dujac, Mugnier, and Engel, and a banded three pack OWC of 2005 DRC Montrachet leads the charge for White Burgundy followed by choice selections of Pillot and Roulot. The Rhone stars fifteen selections of Chave crowned by Jeroboams of 2003 Ermitage Cathelin, 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Hermitage, as well as a string of magnums going back to 1990 and 1999!! A Champagne interlude highlights magnums of 1985 Dom Perignon and 1996 Cristal and Italy is dominated by a dozen lots of Gaja, including 2004 Sori San Lorenzo and 1990 Sperss! Vega Sicilia Unico and fourteen selections of Lopez de Heredia, including legendary vintages 1942, 1947, 1954 and 1961, shine in Spain.
There are sixty selections of Cult California as the big Grand Finale for this collection including Araujo, Bond, Eisele, Shafer Hillside, Peter Michael, Marcassin, and Kongsgaard, and a significant selection of Harlan. Twenty-two lots from Harlan Estate are crowned by magnums of 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012! All in all, this is a fantastic way to commence our auction festivities and a great way to welcome our newest consignor to the Acker family. There is nothing quite like the first time!

Magnificent Wines of a European Connoisseur
These Magnificent, Mature, and Iconic Old World Wines are featured in lots 530-656, and what a feature it is! Perfectly mature wine from a grand old vintage of yesteryear will elicit oohs and aahs at the dinner table like nothing else. These wines are increasingly hard to find, and modern winemaking techniques make them all the more precious. Fortunately, this collector has been acquiring the icons of France, Italy, and Spain for decades and offers over one-hundred and sixty selections focusing on these gems. Bordeaux commences the festivities with magnums of 1928 and 1961 Beychevelle, 1950 La Mission, 1953 and 1961 Lafite and 1934 Latour – take notice! We have a dozen lots of La Mission Haut Brion highlighted by six bottles of legendary 1961, backed by nine selections of Latour from 1921 to 2008 including five bottles of 1959!! The epic 1961 vintage continues to flourish with Palmer and the hits keep coming with 1921 Margaux, 1959 Mouton, 1982 Petrus and 1945 Vieux Chateau Certan!!
Burgundy seizes the mantle with 1985 Rousseau Chambertin and 1999 Clos de Beze, 1962 Vogue Musigny, and five selections of DRC centering around 1971 La Tache! We get a dash of Rhone with 1978 Rayas and a sparkle in our step with nearly two dozen lots of Dom Perignon back to 1964, verticals of Taittinger spanning 1978 to 2008, and even more great mature Champagne. Giacosa and G. Conterno wave the flag for Italy including mammoth bottles of 1955, 1970, and 1971 Conterno Monfortino Riserva (!!!) while Vega Sicilia maintains sway with eighteen lots going back to 1924 highlighted by a case of 1968 and two cases of 1970! Talk about magnificent!!!

Nothing fulfills our nights or fills the pages of Vintage Tastings Journal quite like the finest French wines, and The Kingsman is always welcome when it comes to the planning of great wine dinners. This longtime friend provides over one-hundred and forty lots focusing on Bordeaux and Burgundy! Top selections of young Blue Chip Bordeaux consist of parcels of 2018 La Conseillante, 2003 Leoville Poyferre, and 2016 Pichon Lalande, as well as cases of 2016s from Haut Brion, La Mission, and Lafite.
Outstanding Burgundy features eighteen electrifying selections of Rousseau with Chambertin from 2008 to 2018 as well as 2014 and 2016 Clos St. Jacques in bottle and magnum!! A dozen lots of Domaine de la Romanee Conti are highlighted by six-packs of 2010 Grands Echezeaux and 2017 and 2018 La Tache, and Dujac is knighted by seventeen selections inclusive of 2018 Chambertin magnums and a six-pack of 2019 Romanee St. Vivant! Roumier comes through with eleven lots including 2019s from Bonnes Mares, Amoureuses, and Musigny, and other youthful Burgundy comes from Bachelet, Rene Engel, Cathiard, and more. The Foodie & The Oenophile
This match made in heaven, in Lots 233-343, features over one hundred lots from around the world of fine wine courtesy of a charismatic, trailblazing CEO. His interest in wine began all the way back in college and expanded as he entered the working world and had the opportunity to try many different types of wine and cuisine. He found his perfect match when he met his wife who has always been a sensational cook. So, they are a team: the foodie and the oenophile are much better than beauty and the beast! First Growth Bordeaux from the 1980s and 1990s includes multi-case parcels of 1982 Haut Brion, 1990 and 1996 Margaux, 1989 Lafite magnums, and 1989 Mouton!
Domaine de la Romanee Conti, led by six bottles of 1996 La Tache, and seven selections of Prieure-Roch, highlighted by several Les Suchots, headline Red Burgundy, and Domaine Leflaive leads the way for White Burgundy with several vintages of Pucelles. A lengthy parcel of 2001 Beaucastel takes us to the Rhone where we find Guigal La Las back to 1988 and La Chapelles from 1997 and 2003. We head home to unearth a heap of Harlan spanning 1994 to 2010 and an impressive collection of Screaming Eagle arching 2001 over to 2018 including 2006 in bottle and magnum!! It is an honor to represent this member of Chevaliers du Tastevin, whose collection includes great icons as well as “icons on the way up.” He is excited to sell some of his gems that are ready to drink, and you too should be to buy them!
