Born and raised in New York City, Sam is a private client specialist, and holds the title of Acker’s resident Spanish wine expert. Sam’s Acker tenure began in 2007, and his passion and expertise are rooted in the great wines of Spain, as well as the world’s great white wines. He has traveled to Europe (and particularly, to Spain) many times since beginning his journey into wine, and has written about his tasting experiences and adventures for Acker’s Wine Club program and beyond.
2019 Acker Private Label Pinot Noir Five Vine Proprietary Blend 750ml
This beautiful Pinot Noir was proudly hand-selected by our own team here, a barrel blend of Willamette Valley fruit produced by the famous Rose & Arrow estate. From some of the best terroirs in the Chehalem Mountains and Hopewell Hills, the wine is made up from fruit from five select parcels, hence its name. From the stunning 2019 vintage, the wine shows lovely orange peel, raspberry, red floral, and Asian spice aromatics.
In the mouth it is layered with red fruit flavors, hints of violets and terrific acidity to sow everything together into one harmonious wine, showing soft, gliding tannins and excellent minerality from attack to long finish. It is a wonderfully pleasurable wine, one that will mesh beautifully with King salmon, Peking duck, stuffed mushrooms, veggie lasagna or a whole smorgasbord of wonderful dishes during these spring months!

2020 Latour-Giraud Coteaux Bourguignons 750ml
The history of Domaine Latour-Giraud dates back to the end of the 17th century, when the young Jean-Latour Boillot was first noted as producing wine in the climat of Genevrières in Meursault. For over three centuries, the Latour family has continued to move from strength to strength, as one of the most important in Meursault. Merging with the Giraud family through marriage in 1958, Latour-Giraud now covers 10 hectares, principally in Meursault. Their Côteaux-Bourguignons is a declassified Meursault wine, grown specifically in two large plots which stand both in and out of the AOC of Meursault but is vinified mostly the same but with no new oak.
That helps this wine to be a fresher, crisper, and leaner version of French Chardonnay! Aromatically racy with green and golden apple notes, some honeysuckle and Meyer lemon, it has excellent length on the palate, with delicious honey crisp apple and peach pit flavors, lovely acidity, and excellent length. Nervy Meursault minerality lingers on the fresh finish. This is delightful on its own, with fish or pasta with cream sauce, or served chilled with light appetizers.

2021 Failla Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 750ml
Ehren Jordan has been making wine on the Sonoma Coast for nearly 30 years—when he launched his proprietary wines in 1998, he originally named the winery Failla-Jordan, but only the first stuck! Named for the proper foliage growing on this beautiful property in Cazadero, he has translated his formal training in Burgundy into created cool-climate, elegant Pinot Noir and Syrah, as well as Chardonnay, here on the Sonoma Coast. His estate Chardonnay is one of the benchmarks of Sonoma Coast; it is always an approachable wine, not too heavy but the perfect blend of three estate vineyards.
The 2021 vintage represents his parcels in Flood Gate, Keefer Ranch and Olivet Ranch vineyards. He uses only whole-cluster fermentation but only 10% new oak in the aging and doesn’t bottle fined or filtered. So here one has a classic Chardonnay with aromatics redolent of pineapple, pear, and Delicious apple. The palate is crisp, with a touch of vanilla and apricot, Meyer lemon, pear, and honeydew flavors and a lush, coating texture with a long finish. A delightful pairing with lobster, baked chicken (or Southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy!), poached salmon with hollandaise, or like dishes!
