Mature Wines Continue to Move Worldwide Market

Three Notable Lots in the April DE Auction:
Lot 813: 4 bottles 1999 DRC Romanee Conti

A strong spring surge came in the form of “April Showers,” Acker’s April 11 US auction, resulting in nearly US $7M in sales for the world’s leading fine wine auction house. The US market once again proved its resurgence and resilience with active and aggressive bidding on mature, rare wines from around the globe, with noticeable and increased activity both online and live in multiple bidding parties across the States.
Domaine de la Romanee Conti reasserted itself as the World’s Biggest Brand, occupying all ten positions of the sale’s Top Lots. The first non-DRC surfaced in position 12, with a 3-bottle lot of the legendary 1945 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and the Domaine’s run continued until a 6-bottle lot of 2010 Rousseau Chambertin broke the next streak in position 17. Representing the famed 1999 vintage, the two top lots of the sale were a 4-bottle lot of 1999 DRC Romanee Conti, sold for $100,000, and a case of 1999 La Tache that brought in $87,500. Three bottles of 2005 Romanee Conti took position three, bringing in $60,000, before a 10-bottle lot of 2000 La Tache sold for $56,250. There was a six-way tie for fifth place, all at $50,000, and rounding out the Top Ten were a 12-bottle lot of 2014 La Tache, a 3-bottle banded owc of 2014 Romanee Conti, 10 bottles of 2005 La Tache, and 3 bottle lots each of 2012 and 2013 Romanee Conti, all of which sold for $50,000.
“This was an exciting sale where demand for mature wines continued to impress,” said Acker Chairman, John Kapon. “The US market is bouncing forward in 2024 with a resurgence in interest and activity. Bordeaux, Burgundy, California, Italy, Champagne – you name it – buyers wanted their wine and demanded it across the board which was reflected in the great results of this special auction.”
Acker's auction season continues in April 18 in Hong Kong with a live-online “Connoisseur’s Club” auction, followed by another live auction May 18th. The next live US auction will be on May 30. An auction of spirits is also scheduled to take place April 30.
