Chateau Margaux Vertical Dinner
Venue: Chefs Club, 275 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10012
Date: Tuesday March 6th, 2018
Chateau Margaux is considered the most elegant and sensual of the first growths. Its haunting perfume and incredible balance of power and finesse are nothing short of amazing. The Chateau has a long history dating to the 12th century, when it was known as “La Mothe de Margaux”; although no vines were planted at that time. By the end of the 17th century, Château Margaux covered 265 hectares (654 acres), a third of which was devoted to vine growing; this is how the estate still stands today. This Château has seen its highest highs since it was purchased in 1977 by André Mentzelopoulos, the “Greek in the Médoc”; His love for Château Margaux helped put it back in its rightful place at the top. When André died in 1980 his daughter Corinne took over.
Vintages include: 1979; 1982; 1983; 1985; 1986; 1988; 1989; 1990; 1995; 1996; 1998; 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; and 2003

Chateau Montelena Vertical Tasting
Venue: The Michelangelo, 152 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
Date: Tuesday March 13th, 2018
Chateau Montelena, a stalwart of the old-school Cali style, became famous by producing outstanding, age worthy wines long before the term Cult wine was coined. Favoring elegance over brawn, Bo Barrett always looked to Bordeaux for inspiration. His vision was to make a wine in California that would have the ability to age and develop the complexity and balance found in the great classified growths of Bordeaux. These are Classic Cabernets with brooding black fruit and earth and a powerful structure for long aging. These are not over ripe and heavily extracted wines but wines of balance and finesse.
Vintages include: 1976; 1985; 1986; 1987; 1990; 1991; 1992; 1994; 1995; 1997; 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; 2003; and 2004

1993 Red Burgundy Tasting
Venue: The Michelangelo, 152 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
Date: Thursday March 15th, 2018
1993 is considered by Burgundy aficionados to be an elite vintage. Freddy Mugnier described the vintage as having the “velvet texture and richness of 1990, the fruit of 1989 and the acidity of 1988.” 1993 was a small crop of top quality fruit which produced exceptional wines with concentrated flavor, depth, length and breed. The wines are terroir specific with precise clarity and are refined and elegant. This is definitely a classic Burgundian vintage and this twenty-five-year retrospective is the perfect time to see how the wines are developing.
Wines include: DRC Romanee St. Vivant; Dujac Clos de la Roche; Jean Gros Richebourg; Ponsot Clos de la Roche VV; Ponsot Chambertin; Bouchard La Romanee; Vogue Bonnes Mares; Jadot Chambertin; Lafarge Volnay Clos du Chateau des Ducs; Geantet-Pansiot Charmes Chambertin; Chevillon Nuits St. Georges Les Vaucrains; Michel Gaunoux Pommard 1er Cru Grands Epenots; Faiveley Clos des Cortons and D'Angerville Volnay Taillepieds.

2003 Bordeaux Blind Tasting
Venue: The Michelangelo, 152 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
Date: Tuesday March 27th, 2018
2003 produced some absolutely delicious wines that have the rich dark fruit and low acid that made them immediately appealing. In 2003 You can find vibrant, balanced, even floral wines that totally oppose the extreme heat of the year. Bill Blatch, president of Vintex and one of the leading expert on vintages in Bordeaux, describes the 2003 vintage as follows: “Bordeaux seems to have fared better than elsewhere, first by having had a good, cold and wet winter, and then by gradually leading up to that extreme August by a hot May, and an even hotter June and July. In addition, the peaks of heat were less violent and less absolutely dry than elsewhere in France, with the result that only some of the vines actually shut down and the grapes could keep on evolving, in spite of the extreme conditions. The other capital difference from the rest of France was that Bordeaux, right in the midst of all this heat, actually got some good rainfall in July.”
Wines include: Latour; Margaux; Cheval Blanc; Haut Brion; Angelus; Pavie; Montrose; Palmer; Leoville-Las Cases; Leoville-Barton; Leoville-Poyferre; Cos d'Estournel; Ducru Beaucaillou; Pontet-Canet; and Gruaud Larose.

Domaine Méo-Camuzet Dinner
Venue: Legacy Records, 517 W 38th St, New York, NY 10018
Date: Thursday April 5th, 2018
Join us at Legacy Records, the brand-new restaurant from the Charlie Bird crew for an evening of outstanding Burgundy and fine dining. These are aromatic Burgundies that offer sweet fruit and exotic spice along with a deep velvety texture. Méo-Camuzet is one of the greatest estates in Burgundy today. Noted for having legendary Burgundian grand master, Henri Jayer, as a consultant in its beginning, this domaine has taken that wisdom and risen to the pinnacle of Burgundy’s achievements under the leadership of Jean Meo. Their holdings in Clos Vougeot are right next to Leroy and Mugneret Gibourg in the Les Chioures and Grand Maupertuis sections. This is the greatest terroir of the vineyard. They make a Clos Vougeot of elegance, finesse and balance with an inner core of fruit. Their Richebourg holdings are at the top of Les Verroilles and catch the late evening sun. This is a multidimensional wine of great intensity – arguably one the greatest expressions of this venerable terroir. The Cros Parantoux lives up to the legend of Henri Jayer, this is pure Vosne Romanee at its finest. Their Echezeaux is situated on the top of Les Rouges which accounts for the great minerality of this wine. Méo-Camuzet is considered by many as one of Burgundy’s greatest domaines today.
Wines for this event include: 2009, 2008, 2007, 2002, 1999 Clos de Vougeot; 2008, 2005, 2000, 1998, 1996 Richebourg; and 2005 Cros Parantoux and Echezeaux.

Chambolle Musigny Terroir Tasting
Venue: The Michelangelo, 152 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
Date: Tuesday April 10th, 2018
The vineyards of Chambolle Musigny lie at between 250 and 300 meters on a variety of soils, from red alluvial to brown limestone. There are two Grand Crus; Musigny and Bonnes Mares. Musigny is on a slope varying between eight and fourteen percent. The subsoil is white oolite in the upper parts and Comblanchien limestone farther down, with up to twenty percent pebbles which gives good drainage and adds to Musigny’s finesse. There is also some red clay which gives richness. Musigny is on the southern side of the village bordering Clos Vougeot. Bonnes Mares is in the north bordering Morey Saint Denis, where it shares a small part of the vineyard. Les Amoureuses lies right below Musigny and has a subsoil full of geological faults allowing the roots to reach depths of over 30 feet. Perfume scents and aromatic complexity are the hallmarks of a great Chambolle. The lighter soils tend to produce wines with elegance and femininity rather than a Nuit-type power and earth. Comparing Musigny, Bonnes Mares and Les Amoureuses is always a fascinating exercise.
Wines include: 1998 Roumier Bonnes Mares; 1999 Dujac Bonnes Mares; 1999 Vogue Musigny VV; 2005 Drouhin Musigny; 2009 Roumier Chambolle Musigny, Les Cras, 1er Cru; 2008 Drouhin Chambolle Musigny Amoureuses; 2002 Groffier Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses; 2005 Mugneret-Gibourg Chambolle Musigny Feusselottes; 2008 Meo Camuzet Chambolle Musigny Feusselottes; 2012 JF Mugnier Les Fuees 1er Cru; 2008 Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru; 2005 Roumier Chambolle Musigny; and 2012 Mugnier Chambolle Musigny.

Château Lagrange Dinner with Winemaker Matthieu Bordes
Venue: The Core Club, 66 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022
Date: Monday April 23rd, 2018
In 1983 Chateau Lagrange was sold to Suntory and became the first cru class Bordeaux to be bought by a Japanese company. Suntory has spared no expense improving both the wines and the property making it one of the top estates in Bordeaux today. The vineyards are well places in St-Julien right behind Gruaud-Larose on an excellent terroir. Winemaker Matthieu Bordes will personally guide us though an absolutely delicious vertical of Lagrange’s best vintages. The wines are pure and expressive and showcase the classic black currant elegance of a top Saint Julien.

Clos de Tart Dinner
Venue: Tocqueville, 1 E 15th St, New York, NY 10003
Date: Thursday April 26th, 2018
Clos de Tart is situated in Morey-Sant-Denis. The soils are mainly clay-limestone and the vines are planted north-south rather than up and down the slope. The Monopole can be traced back to the 12th Century and since then there has only been three owners. A new winery was finished in 1999, where they produce two wines: La Forge de Tart (produced from young vines) and Clos de Tart. When young the wines have a delicate nose of violets but as they age they gain weight and become beautifully complex displaying a deep mixture of leather, underbrush and exotic spice which are all the hallmarks of a great Morey-Sant-Denis.
Vintages for the dinner include: 1978; 1985; 1990; 1996; 1998; 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; 2005; 2006; 2008; 2009; and 2010.

An Evening of Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tasting with Bob Cunningham
Venue: The Michelangelo, 152 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
Date: Wednesday May 2nd, 2018
Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes in a variety of styles from restrained medium bodied wines to extravagantly rich head spinners that sometimes exceed 15 percent alcohol. These wines express liqueur-like aromas and flavors of roasted herbs, cherry, raspberry and chocolate mixed with game, earth and leather. They have a lush mouthfeel and silky sweet tannins. Other styles depending on wine making and terroir can be elegant, even restrained and have the ability to age brilliantly on their balance. There are 13 grape varieties allowed (five of them white) which can be used in the blend, but most wines are dominated by Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. Bob has visited the region many times and has been a collector of these wines for decades. You won’t want to miss his insights into this fascinating region.
Wines include: 1988 H Bonneau Celestins; 1995 Rayas; 2000 Beaucastel Hommage J Perrin; 2006 Beaucastel; 2007 Pegau Cuvee da Capo; 2005 Pegau Cuvee Laurence; 2006 Brunel Cuvee Centenaire; 2011 Clos des Papes; 2000 Clos du Caillou Les Quartz; 2009 Clos St. Jean Deus Ex Machina; 1998 Mont Olivet Papet; 2000 P. DRC Grands Echezeaux vs. Echezeaux
Venue: Craft, 43 E 19th St, New York, NY 10003
Date: Tuesday May 15th, 2018
DRC’s wines are flamboyantly rich and concentrated but never heavy. They have an intriguing spice and minerality that Pinot Noir from other parts of the world have not been able to achieve. Considered the pinnacle of Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti produces some of the world’s most revered wines from its tiny vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. Year in and year out the Domaine yields sublime wines that are among the most highly sought after, seductive and rarest in the world. Two of the Domaine’s seven Grand Cru vineyards - Échezeaux and Grands-Échezeaux lay next to each other. Grands- Échezeaux forms a roughly triangular piece which fits into and squares off the south-west corner of Clos de Vougeot. On the other two sides, it is bounded by the much more extensive Echezeaux. Within Échezeaux there are a number of choice lieux-dits and above Grands- Échezeaux lays the favored Les Poulailleres where DRC has its vineyards. Join us for this fascinating Domaine de la Romanée-Conti comparison and find out for yourself.
We will compare both Échezeaux and Grands- Échezeaux in each of these vintages: 1983; 1998; 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; and 2005.

Giacomo Conterno and Bruno Giacosa Barolo Dinner
Venue: Maialino, 2 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10010
Date: Tuesday May 22nd, 2018
The late Giovanni Conterno’s son Roberto is now in charge of this top estate in Monforte d’Alba. They have a long history for making some of Barolo’s most powerful, profound and traditional wines. Their flagship Monfortino Riserva is produced from the hillside vineyard Cascina Francia in Serralunga and only in the best vintages. It’s one of the most outstanding and awe-inspiring expressions of Nebbiolo on the planet. Bruno Giacosa, one of the greatest winemakers of Italy’s Piedmont region, or anywhere else for that matter, died this year. Bruno was an ultra-traditionalist, his wines are super concentrated, brilliantly aromatic and have an uncompromising structure for long-aging. These are amongst the most sought-after wines of Italy. In the best vintages he makes a red label reserve but any wine from Giacosa is worth collecting. Even though they are expensive the wines of both Giacomo Conterno and Bruno Giacosa are relative values compared to Grand Cru Burgundy and First Growth Bordeaux.
This will be a spectacular night, featuring: 1990, 1993, 1997, 1998, 1999 Monfortino; 1985, 1989, 1990 Cascina Francia; 1989 Giacosa Barolo Rionda Riserva; 1978 Giacosa Barolo Rocche del Falletto; 1996, 1989, 1986 Giacosa Barolo Falletto Riserva; 1985 Giacosa Barolo Villero and 2009 Giacosa Barolo Falletto.

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne
Venue: Atera, 77 Worth St, New York, NY 10013
Date: Tuesday June 12th, 2018
Taittinger is famous for producing aristocratic and graceful wines that age on their balance and offer a kaleidoscope of brilliant aromatics. The house style displays lightness and finesse, but the wines are never thin and are consistently full flavored. Their Comtes de Champagne which still seems to fly under the radar is a connoisseur favorite. This is a creamy and seductive wine that can age incredibly well and is on the level the region’s most elite tête de cuvée’s including Krug Clos du Mesnil, Dom Perignon, Salon and Cristal. In comparison to these legendary wines the Comtes de Champagne is one of the few tête de cuvée that still represents a great value. “Taittinger’s tête de cuvée Comtes de Champagne seems to fly under the radar among the region’s elite bottles. Savvy consumers know better, though. Comtes de Champagnes is one of the most profound wines readers will come across, particularly with some bottle age.” Antonio Galloni.
