This is also intensely floral with subtle spice notes on the relatively cool but ripe nose of primarily red berry fruit, lavender and wet stone aromas. There is excellent detail to the tautly muscular and firm yet reasonably refined broad-shouldered flavors that possess superb length. The amount of mid-palate sap is genuinely remarkable and this will permit early accessibility yet it will be capable of aging effortlessly. A wonderfully impressive effort.

Very good full red. Lower-pitched on the nose than the Clos Saint-Denis, offering minerals, truffle and underbrush. Sweet, rich, pliant and deep; wonderfully creamy in the middle but with a hard outside shell. Doesn't currently offer the nuance of the Clos Saint-Denis. Finishes with fine tannins and excellent length. This will require at least seven or eight years of patience.

The 2009 Clos de la Roche wafts from the glass with hints of tobacco, wild flowers and cherries. This is an elegant, refined Clos de la Roche long on finesse and pure sensuality. The gorgeous, finely-knit finish leaves a lasting impression. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039.
