A gorgeously spicy, wonderfully complex and fresh red fruit nose followed by refined, succulent, beautifully balanced, medium-bodied flavors of superior length. Very classy and pure juice and this is so rich that the naturally potent acidity of '96 actually serves to give the flavors better delineation and overall finesse rather than making them seem light or overly thin. In short, this is a serious wine of impeccable aging potential and while it certainly could be approached now with pleasure, it will continue to benefit from a few more years of cellar time. Consistent notes.

 Saturated ruby-red. Slightly sauvage, multidimensional aromas of black fruits, sweet oak and licorice, plus a whiff of animal fur. Offers confectionary sweetness in the mouth, yet maintains uncanny delineation and grip. The slow-building finish goes on and on. A monumental wine with powerful structure: give this extremely unevolved grand cru plenty of aeration if you plan to try it now.

Literally drenched in black fruit flavors, with hints of vanilla and game, this is a round, chunky '96 bordering on chocolaty. Rich and satisfying, with a lingering, slightly hot finish.

 I have no argument with anyone who states that this wine merits a perfect score. It is a dark ruby/purple-colored wine that regales the olfactory senses with sweet and perfumed red and black cherry scents that are lively, profound, and verging on jammy - reminiscent of the filling of a deep dish cherry pie. On the palate, this wondrous wine's combination of super-ripe candied red fruits and violets with virtually perfect precision and purity of flavors is mind-boggling. This complex, velvety-textured, chewy, and delineated wine is utterly extraordinary and other-worldly.
